On-Street Parking Policy

The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters manages parking in the local area to balance the needs of a wide range of users including residents, businesses and shoppers.

On Street Parking Policy

Like many inner city areas, in the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters on-street parking is a limited resource, often with competing user requirements and demands.

The Council has developed the On-Street Parking Policy to help manage on-street parking requirements.

The Policy aims to:

  • provide fair and equitable access to on-street parking;
  • optimise the use of on-street parking to best meet the needs of users; and
  • ensure the management of on-street parking is clear, transparent and equitable.

How will the Parking Policy be Implemented?

The implementation the Council's On-Street Parking Policy is currently being rolled-out across the City, precinct by precinct. This is a very large body of work and will take a number of years to complete.

The process includes the following tasks:

  • review all parking-related concerns raised by citizens;
  • undertake numerous parking demand surveys to identify parking demand at different times of the day, and type of parking (eg, short-term, long-term, residential, employees, bus commuters, etc);
  • prepare recommendations for changes to parking controls and time limits where required;
  • refine the recommendations by collaborating with citizens of each precinct to determine the most appropriate outcome; and
  • Install parking controls and monitor and evaluate for effectiveness.
